Aug. 13th, 2009 11:18 pmI genuinely cannot believe how amazing my Dougal is being right now.
Today, I jumped the highest I've ever jumped him. Ok, so it was only by an inch, but 3'4 is a bloody good fence.
But... it was without Keith. I never push myself as much when Keith's not there, so outside of my lessons I will generally go up to 2'9, maybe 3'0 on a good day. But the thing is... I wasn't pushing myself? I'd just jumped him a bit smaller and he'd done it so easily I just asked my mum to put it up again and he cleared it with the most perfect, spot on jump ever possible. I considered asking her to make it bigger again, but the last jump was so good I wanted to leave it as it was rather than pushing too far and spoiling it. But apparently he'd cleared it by at least 6 inches, so he could've gone up. But when we went back and measured it I was seriously thinking it was gonna be about 3'0, coz I knew it was a decent size but it was so calm and neat and perfect it really didn't feel that massive. But no, there it was, just above the 3'3 mark. The highest I'd done before was the top of the barrels, which we measure as just under 3'3.
God, this time 2 months ago I would've been nervous going into a 3'0 with Keith there to make sure I'm set up right. But he's just been so good I'm now going in bloody massive fences and thinking absolutely nothing of it, I just have complete and total confidence that he will give me a good jump whatever I put in front of him.
God I wanna go showjumping. He's just so good at the moment, I wanna go do it competitively, show everyone else how fantastic my boy is. I mean, the thing the other week was fun, and I was so bloody proud of him, but... the showjumping part was so pathetic, and that's kinda My Thing.
Ok, mostly I wanna play around in the jump-off making up impossible lines in to fences with insane spur-of-the-moment decisions of "WTF ARE WE DOING?!" but now with added confidence and ridiculous scope XD
