Pairing: Roger/Rafa
Rating: PG so far, may go up in later chapters
Disclaimer: This is not even close to anything resembling reality
Summary: Roger is an angel. Rafa is a demon. They should be rivals, but that would be far too easy.
A/N: This is takes a kind of vague inspiration from Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman (and if you’ve never read it I highly recommend it)
Love for my awesome girls who read through it and reassured me that it wasn’t completely crap:kthxrawr, last_panda and pretty_panther - love you all loads ^_^
Roger scanned the restaurant, immediately spotting the familiar figure sitting in the far corner despite the dark glasses and the cap pulled low over his face. He walked over and sat on the chair opposite, reaching over to pull the cap from the other man’s head and chuckling at the resultant flailing.
“Rafa, what are you doing?”
Rafa frantically looked around and ducked down low to the table as if that would make him less conspicuous.
“Shhhhh, I don’t want anyone to see us.”
“Ok… why?”
“Coz I’m not supposed to be friends with you. You know that.”
“Oh come on, everyone knows we’re friends anyway. Why is it suddenly a problem?”
Rafa shifted uncomfortably in his chair. “Well… He says I can’t be friends with you anymore. He says you distract me.”
“Oh… well if you want to hide maybe you should skip on the bright pink shirt next time.” Roger nearly laughed out loud at Rafa’s dismayed look.
“But…but it’s my favourite. I guess… maybe if I just work really hard on my next assignment then I can prove to Him that we can still be friends without it affecting my work. But I can’t have another repeat of Japan.”
Roger looked confused. “Why, what happened?”
Rafa just sighed and looked mildly embarrassed. “You know that earthquake last month? The one you were supposed to go help at but you couldn’t get to in time? I spent so long guiding rescue teams to people in the rubble that I completely forgot I was supposed to helping some corrupt businessman in the next town finish off a dodgy deal. It was supposed to be the final sin, the one that meant he couldn’t be saved. But I missed it, and one of your guys got to him and made him ‘see the light’ or something. Now he’s off selling all of his illicit gains and donating the money to charity and we’ve got no chance of getting him back now. And apparently he was a big catch. He couldn’t even talk to me when He found out. If I was mortal I think I might’ve feared for my life.”
“Wow, Rafa, you didn’t have to do that. A little help seeing, maybe a couple of blocks shifted out of the way was all I asked for. You didn’t have to stay and guide them.”
“I know, I know, it’s just… they all looked so helpless, I couldn’t leave them like that.” Rafa was looking even more embarrassed by the second. He was a demon, he wasn’t supposed to feel sorry for people.
Roger shook his head. “…Sometimes I really do wonder how you fell. I swear, you’re better than some of the guys who are still up there now.”
Rafa’s face dropped. “You know I don’t like to talk about it. Anyway, I should really go before someone finds out I’m here with you. Good luck saving the world.”
Rafa stood up from the table and started to walk away, but Roger was faster than him, reaching out to grab his wrist with supernatural speed.
“Hey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring it up. Please sit back down. Please?”
Rafa kept his eyes focused on the floor, knowing that the moment he looked into Roger’s eyes he would give in. He never could say no to Roger. And what good was a demon who consistently gave in to the requests of heaven’s favourite angel? He was never going to be able to do his job properly while he was still in love with Roger. He had to stop this now.
“I’m sorry Roger, but… we can’t be friends anymore. It just can’t work.” He tried to pull away, but Roger’s grip was strong. Roger stood up and placed a finger under Rafa’s chin, tilting his head up. Even through Rafa’s dark glasses, Roger’s gaze was still piercing, still melted something deep inside of him.
“Please stay Rafa. Just this once. It’s our day off, no one will be looking, and we so rarely get this liberty. I want to have fun. I want to spend it with you.”
Rafa never could say no to Roger...

just one chapter and im enjoying it, cant wait for more, hope you update soon :)

on 2009-11-03 01:30 pm (UTC)But yes, I definitely recommend the book, I've read it countless times and I still love it more than anything, and everyone I know that's read it agrees. And there are lots of slashy undertones throughout, which is always fun :D
